The Welsh Lake District!
The Elan valley is known as the ‘Welsh Lake district’, but we think it is even prettier! Consisting of five striking reservoirs built during the late 19th and early 20th century, this 70 square mile area of moorland, bog, woodland, river and reservoir is an internationally important wildlife site. We would recommend a stop made at the fascinating Elan Valley Visitor Centre, followed by a visit to the quaint Penbont House tea rooms. There are fantastic photographic opportunities on this trip, and it may be possible to see several different birds of prey, Kites and Buzzards are almost guaranteed, and ‘Eddie’ the Golden Eagle has been seen in this area. This tour will also pass through Cwmystwyth, heavy with Lead mining history.
