The world famous International Llangollen Eisteddfod - a historic feast of music and poetry held in Wales - celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2017. Since its post-WW2 inception, it has grown to around 4,000 musicians and dancers performing and competing in an atmosphere of international peace and understanding. During this special tour, enjoy two days entrance to the festival plus an evening concert preceded by 5 days of touring and visiting the magnificent scenery, castles and historic sites of North Wales.

Day 1: Tuesday, July 4th: The tour will begin with pickups in the city of Chester. Meet your guide this morning at the hotel and journey to Erdigg Hall & Gardens. Set in a superb 18th century formal garden, Erdigg Hall, now maintained by the National Trust, is one of Britain’s finest historic houses. After time for lunch travel across northern Wales, making a brief stop at the Marble Church in Bodelwyddan where Canadian soldiers from WW1 are buried, before arriving in the Victorian resort town of Llandudno.

Day 2: Wednesday, July 5th: Travel this morning to Caernarfon with a visit to perhaps the most famous of the castles built by Edward 1 in 1283 during his conquest of Wales. Continue with a visit to the Nant Gwrtheyrn Welsh Heritage and Language Centre for a taster lesson of the Welsh language, followed by a stop at the ancient St. Beuno’s Church. This evening spend a very special night at Pant Du vineyard including wine tasting and dinner.

Day 3: Thursday, July 6th: This morning the group will enjoy an exclusive, out-of-hours, visit to Penrhyn Castle, an extravagant, rich families castle, built in the early 1800s. This afternoon take a visit to a working sheep farm where you will meet the farmer and stop for tea and cakes. Dinner will be taken at the hotel this evening.

Day 4: Friday, July 7th: A day of wonderful variety. This morning take a ride on the Snowden Mountain Railway followed by a visit underground to the National Slate Museum. In the afternoon explore the glory of Bodnant Garden, one of Wales premier gardens with magnificent views towards the Snowdonia Mountains. Dinner at hotel.

Day 5: Saturday, July 8th: A morning visit to another of Edward’s great castle, Conwy Castle. After a tour of the
castle you will have free time to explore the narrow, cobbled streets of the town. Back in Llandudno we will ride the Great Orme Tramway and have free time in the town before our final dinner at our Llandudno hotel.

Day 6: Sunday, July 9th: Today will be the first visit today to the world-famous Llangollen International Music Festival. The exact programme of events has yet to finalised but you can expect parades through the town and many musical competitions in the pavilion and in the surrounding fields, followed by an evening concert. We check in to the Chainbridge Hotel, Llangollen, for 2 nights. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

Day 7: Monday, July 10th: Spend the morning with the sights and sounds of the Music Festival. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Dinner will be back at the hotel in Llangollen, followed by the Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir rehearsal at 7.00pm. What a wonderful way to end our tour!

Day 8: Tuesday, July 11th: Today will be your final day in North Wales. A transfer to Manchester airport will be available, and optional extensions or transfers elsewhere are available on request.
