Today travel through the valleys of South Wales and into the Brecon Beacons National Park. Visit the ‘Big Pit’ National Mining Museum of Wales, where you can embark on an underground tour of the mine.You will discover how this part of the world became the heart of the Industrial Revolution and how the town of Blaenafon has now become a World Heritage Site. You have a choice of quaint towns to visit in the area, including Hay-On-Wye or Brecon. Hay-On-Wye is a book-lovers’ paradise and was home to the first second-hand book shop in Wales. It is known for the annual Hay Literary Festival. Brecon is on the edges of the National Park and includes a fine Cathedral, museum, indoor market and a number of well stocked craft shops. Finish your day at Penderyn Whisky Distillery. Using the natural spring water from the Brecon Beacons, the distillery produces Penderyn single malt whisky as well as a gin, vodka and delicious cream liqueur. Take a tour of the distillery, appreciating how the whisky differs from any other in the world. See where the whisky is produced, barrelled, finished and nurtured before getting a chance to sample some of the finished product.
