Today travel on the Vale of Rheidol railway on a traditional steam locomotive. Departing from Aberystwyth town, it takes you 11 ¾ miles all the way up to the beautiful Devil’s Bridge. The train offers incomparable views of the Rheidol valley from the mountain-side. There will be a stop to refuel with lunch at the Hafod Hotel, a former hunting lodge which overlooks the valley, before walking down to the bridge itself. Devil’s Bridge itself is a mythical place where it is said that the Devil was tricked by an old Welsh lady. First, stop to see the three bridges over the gorge that over time have been built one on top of the other. From here you can walk down to the punchbowl to see how the water has dramatically altered the rock or take the fall’s walk through the nature trail. Look out for Robber’s cave and Red Kites as well as the other flora and fauna which make this a site of special scientific interest!
The Vale of Rheidol Steam Train will depart at 10.00am, and arrive back at Aberystwyth at 5.15pm.
We will tour some of the highlights of Devil's Bridge and enjoy a lunch at Hafod Hotel.
