In the year 1818 six families from the Cilcennin area decided to emigrate to Ohio. The party was led by John Jones who at the time farmed Tirbach, Cilcennin and also kept the Ship Inn public house in Pennant (a neighbouring village). By all accounts, the life changing decision was reached one evening whilst sitting around the pub fire enjoying a glass of beer.In a few months time 200 years will have lapsed since the original settlers left Cardiganshire for America. This tour has been organised to commemorate those original pioneering families, and celebrate their spirit of adventure.
Friday 22nd June 2018: Arrival in Aberaeron followed by a meet and greet to welcome everyone to Ceredigion (D)
Saturday 23rd June 2018: Enjoy a free morning followed by an optional guided coastal walk from Pennant to Tirbach (optional). This will be followed by a BBQ at Tirbach Farm, Cilcennin, home of John Jones, leader of the original six families who left for Ohio in 1818. (B, D)
Sunday 24th June 2018: Today there will be a morning service held in a local chapel in Aberaeron followed by free time. An evening Cymanfa Ganu. Hymn singing in the open air on Mynydd Bach if weather permits. (Alternative available - chapel) (B, L)
Monday 25th June 2018: Visit to Devil's Bridge followed by Steam train journey on Vale of Rheidol. Free time in Aberystwyth for lunch followed by National Library of Wales tour. Perhaps there will be time to look at the records of some of your descendants! (B, D)
Tuesday 26th June 2018: Coach Trips to the homes/farms of some of the original emigrants – today visit Tregaron and enjoy time in the exhibit in Rhiannon's Welsh Gold workshop. There will also be a stop at Y Talbot Hotel for refreshments. (B, L)
Wednesday 27th June 2018: Coach Trips to the homes/farms of some of the original emigrants – today visit Clicennin and enjoy time in the exhibit featured here. There will also be a lunch stop enroute. This evening there will a chance to watch the drama of the emigrant stories performed on the quayside in Aberaeron followed by an informal pub singing get- togethers (B, L)
Thursday 28th June 2018: Coach Trips to the homes/farms of some of the original emigrants – visit the historic villages of Bwlchllan, Trefenter, Llangwyrfon, Llanon. Again, this evening there will a chance to watch the drama of the emigrant stories performed on the quayside in Aberaeron followed by an informal pub singing get- togethers. (B, L)
Friday 29th June 2018: Today enjoy a daytrip to Pembrokeshire where you will have a chance to tackle part of this spectacular path, walking through a landscape of rugged coast, wildlife, quaint towns and villages and award-winning golden beaches. Enjoy a visit to St. Davids, the smallest city in the UK, known for its connections to Dewi Sant, the patron Saint of Wales. (B, D)
Saturday 30th June 2018: Replica sailing ship in Cardigan Bay with visitors able to enjoy short trips from Aberaeron harbour (TBC - payable separately) An open-air Welsh music/Classical concert to celebrate the bi-centenary to be held at Aberaeron. (B, D)
